We get a lot of business from people who see us working and talk to us about a tree that they have. In this case, the home owner watched us working, saw that we were safe and meticulous, and asked us to remove a big silver maple that was towering over his house in the Centrepointe area of Nepean, Ottawa. It was planted too close to the house, and showed some structural issues in the trunk that were concerning.

The back yard was a suburban oasis with beautiful landscaping that left little space into which to lower branches. We carefully cut and lowered branches on ropes into the little space that we had. To make it more of a challenge, the air conditioner was directly below the tree, so we had to work around it as well.
We obtained a permit from the city to remove the tree before starting and helped the home owner to post it properly.

Silver maples have very long, slender branches reaching up high. In this case, because it was so close to the house, we had to take care to keep the branches from slapping down onto the roof and against the house as they were cut. We tied rigging ropes out by the tips of the branches and used a very high rigging point to lower from, so that the branch was kept vertical (as opposed to flipping over) and could be flossed through the canopy on the way down.

We made a few benches from the trunk for the home owner, and hauled the rest of the wood away, leaving a spotless work area. The client kept the wood chips for the garden and we processed the logs into firewood, with some of the logs also getting milled into charcuterie boards.
